 Our FAQ section is here to help you learn some important information about us, our story, and what surrogacy means to our family.

Why are you pursuing surrogacy?

Erika has a condition called MRKH, meaning she was born without a uterus and is unable to carry a pregnancy. Patrick is just along for the ride.

Why are you opting for an independent journey?

We’ve chosen an independent surrogacy journey because it allows us to build a more personal and direct connection with our surrogate. We’re confident in our ability to manage all the moving parts involved, ensuring a smooth and supportive experience for everyone involved.

Do you have embryos made already?

Yes! We have SIX frozen embryos stored at Ottawa Fertility Centre. Two of them have been PGT-A tested, and the other four, while not PGT-A tested, were graded as very high quality by the embryologists.

Are you willing to switch clinics?

Yes! We’re open to switching clinics. Our embryos can be safely shipped to another clinic within Canada depending on the location of our surrogate.

Have you ever done this before?

Kind of! In 2023-2024, we embarked on an independent surrogacy journey with a close family member. Unfortunately, after two unsuccessful cycles (without reaching the transfer stage), we had to make the difficult decision to pause, as it became clear that our surrogate wasn’t an ideal candidate medically. While it was a challenging experience, it taught us so much about the surrogacy process, and we’re now better prepared and more determined to try again.

What about the legal stuff?

We’ve got the legal side covered! Our fertility lawyer in Ottawa is ready to draft another contract for us, ensuring everything is handled above board. We’ll also cover all costs for you to hire your own lawyer to review and represent your side of the agreement. We’re happy to provide recommendations to help you find a lawyer you’re comfortable with.

How will you manage reimbursements?

Any and all costs related to the pregnancy and its preparation will be fully covered, as outlined in our contract. We are committed to reimbursing you promptly and will work with you to manage expenses in a way that is most convenient for you—whether that’s through a receipt-tracking app or another method that works best for you.

How involved will you be in the medical side of things?

This totally depends on your comfort and preferences, as well as your location. We’d love the opportunity to join appointments and physician discussions if you’re open to it, but we completely respect if you’d prefer to attend on your own as they are pretty personal in nature. We’re flexible and here to support you in whatever way feels right for you.

How do you feel about termination?

We understand that, in some cases, termination may be medically necessary to ensure your health. In such a situation, we would rely on the guidance of our medical team and involve you fully in the decision-making process. Your well-being will always be our top priority.
